Community Call (Re: Vallium)

Unavailable for nearly thirty years, the content of Vallium's 6 issues will gradually become available for free through the Discours/e platform of the Frye Festival. In numbers, more than a hundred New Brunswick artists are featured within its pages, in a tone that is as accessible and entertaining as it is serious. A true goldmine (of both gold and art) each publication lets us take the pulse of the times, while showing us what has (or hasn't) stood the test of time.

The web version of Vallium enriches the print edition by giving access to new content that offers an updated look at the artists and works mentioned. It's both a tool for the nostalgic and a treasure trove for the curious who want to discover the behind-the-scenes of creation in an era straddling the end of the analog world and the dawn of the digital one.

Help us find the people behind Vallium #1

Every page of the first issue of Vallium brings together the contributions of several people: a poem, a text, an image, a photo, a work of art. In bringing this cult magazine back to life through Re: Vallium, we've run into a major challenge: tracking down the people who shaped this founding first issue back in 1994.

That's where you come in. Maybe you recognize the style of a friend, a family member, or someone close to you — or maybe you contributed to this editorial adventure yourself. Every detail, no matter how small, can help us piece together this puzzle.

Re: Vallium is, in a way, an exercise in collective memory. It's a way of painting a portrait of Moncton's cultural scene during a pivotal era. By finding the faces behind Vallium, we're not just filling in credits — we're weaving connections between generations and making sure this piece of cultural history isn't lost.
